Valenzuela City Students Shine in Summer Learning Camps
A total of 4,557 students in Valenzuela City spent their summer break productively by joining the city’s reading and mathematics camps, local leaders noted on June 5. These summer learning camps aimed to engage students with fun yet educational activities while preparing them for the new school year.
The program, designed to strengthen essential skills, specifically supports incoming Grades 4, 5, and 6 pupils identified as “frustrated readers,” “non-readers,” or those with low proficiency in mathematics. The remedial classes officially began on June 4 at Canumay West Elementary School and Marulas Elementary School.
Focused Reading and Math Camps
Among the participants, 1,548 students enrolled in the Reading Camp, including 1,537 frustrated readers and 11 non-readers. Meanwhile, 3,009 students attended the Math Camp, composed of 2,934 low-proficient and 75 non-proficient learners. Each student participates in 10 half-day sessions that concentrate on enhancing reading comprehension and math skills.
To further support this initiative, the city government held a Valenzuela Teaching Camp on May 19 and 29. In partnership with the Synergeia Foundation, 84 English teachers with 168 aides and 152 Math teachers with 304 aides received specialized training to effectively mentor the students during the program.
Empowering Students Through Education
The 2025 Summer Camp runs from June 2 to 13. Students who complete all sessions will be rewarded with a P300 gift certificate from the city government. This program highlights Valenzuela City’s dedication to providing quality and accessible education, ensuring every child has the chance to learn, grow, and succeed.
The event was attended by Valenzuela City Mayor Weslie “Wes” Gatchalian, Vice Mayor Lorie Natividad-Borja, city officials, members of the Synergeia Foundation, as well as students and teachers from Marulas and Canumay West Elementary Schools.
