Van Hits Curb at NAIA Terminal 2 Arrival Area

Van Hits Curb at NAIA Terminal 2 Arrival Area: No Casualties Reported

A road crash involving a van happened at the arrival area of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 on the night of June 6. The New NAIA Infra Corp (NNIC) confirmed that no casualties or property damage were reported after the incident.

According to sources, the vehicle, a Toyota Hi-Ace Super Grandia, struck the curb between Bays 13 and 14 while maneuvering. The driver explained to investigators that he swerved to avoid another vehicle, which led to the accident.

Airport security and police responded immediately. After a swift evaluation, they safely backed the van out and escorted it to the Airport Police Division (APD) for routine documentation.

Why the Incident Happened: No Bollards in Place

The NNIC pointed out that the area where the van hit the curb does not have bollards installed. They noted that Bays 13 and 14 are low-traffic zones and have not been flagged as safety or security risks. This absence aligns with current airport design standards.

The statement added that the existing bollards across NAIA were installed back in 2019, before NNIC took over operations in September 2024.

Ongoing Safety Improvements After Incident

Following this vehicular incident, the NNIC included the affected area in a comprehensive audit of bollard placements throughout all NAIA terminals. This audit has now been completed.

The company is actively making improvements to ensure that existing bollards are properly installed and securely anchored. They are also adding new bollards in key locations across the terminals. This initiative comes after a separate accident last month at Terminal 1, where two people died from a speeding vehicle.

The NNIC emphasized their commitment to enhancing safety measures to prevent future incidents.
