Vice President Sara Duterte on Election Results
Vice President Sara Duterte acknowledged the 2025 national and local election results on Monday evening, admitting that the outcome was unexpected. Despite the surprises, she accepted the official partial and unofficial tallies from the Commission on Elections.
Out of the 12 senatorial candidates she personally backed, only five appear likely to win. These include reelectionist Senators Bong Go, Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, and Imee Marcos; Sagip party-list Representative Rodante Marcoleta; and Las Piñas Representative Camille Villar.
Commitment to Serve as Opposition
“While the outcome was not what we had hoped for, our commitment to the people remains unwavering,” Duterte said in a statement. She emphasized their dedication to holding the government accountable and advocating for important issues. She promised to work tirelessly as a strong and constructive opposition.
She also expressed gratitude toward supporters who stood by them throughout the election journey.
Challenges Faced by the Duterte Family
The Duterte family has encountered several challenges recently. Sara Duterte faced impeachment proceedings in the House of Representatives. Meanwhile, her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, was arrested and transferred to the International Criminal Court to face charges of crimes against humanity.
Additionally, her eldest brother, Davao City Representative Paolo “Pulong” Duterte, was recently charged with physical injuries and grave threats following an alleged assault in a Davao City bar.
Looking Ahead: A Renewed Beginning
Sara Duterte encouraged all citizens, regardless of background or past affiliations, to unite in building a principled and powerful opposition. She said, “This is not the end—it’s a renewed beginning. We invite all citizens—regardless of background or past affiliation—to join us in building a powerful and principled opposition.”
She added, “Together, we can shape a future that is fair, inclusive, and just. Stand with us.”
