Vice President Sara Duterte Honors Independence Day with Senator Imee Marcos

Vice President Sara Duterte Celebrates Independence Day in Malaysia

Vice President Sara Duterte marked Independence Day in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, accompanied by notable personalities including Senator Imee Marcos. Throughout her speech, the Vice President frequently mentioned the presidential sister, highlighting her Filipiniana dress and humorously referring to her as a “hostage.” This lively interaction added warmth to the event, showing camaraderie amid serious topics.

The key phrase “celebrates Independence Day with” appears naturally in these moments as the Vice President shared heartfelt reflections on her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte. Currently detained at the International Criminal Court (ICC) facing charges against humanity, her father’s situation deeply affected her.

Addressing the ICC Detention and Political Ties

In her remarks, Vice President Duterte described her father’s detention as “unthinkable” and expressed shame over how the government treated the former leader. She made light of the situation by joking that she would only release Senator Imee Marcos once her father returns safely to Davao.

Support from Prominent Figures During the Event

Besides Senator Imee Marcos, Senator Robin Padilla also joined Vice President Sara Duterte at the Independence Day celebration on June 12. Their presence underscored the political significance of the occasion, especially since both Senators recently took an oath as judges in the impeachment trial of former President Duterte.

Local leaders noted that this event in Kuala Lumpur reinforced solidarity among key figures in Philippine politics while also commemorating the country’s freedom.
