Vice President Sara Duterte Remains Committed Despite Absence

Vice President Sara Duterte Remains Fully Engaged

MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte continues to lead her office’s programs with unwavering dedication, even while she is abroad, sources said. Despite her physical absence, Duterte’s involvement in the Office of the Vice President (OVP) remains strong and proactive.

Since May, Duterte’s overseas trips have taken her to the Netherlands, Malaysia, Australia, and South Korea. Yet, her commitment to the office’s initiatives has not wavered. OVP spokesperson Ruth Castelo emphasized that the Vice President stays deeply connected to the OVP’s work, managing operations remotely and providing vital guidance.

“The Vice President is as involved as she was when our program was first rolled out in 2022 up to now. Her involvement is the same, even more, because we still see many areas of improvement and ideas that the VP provides, so her involvement has never diminished,” Castelo said in a blend of Filipino and English.

“Even if she’s not physically here, she’s still the one running the office. Because there’s technology, we’re the ones here working—we’re the soldiers—but the instructions come from the VP herself,” she added in Filipino.

Virtual Presence Keeps Programs on Track

Castelo explained that Duterte’s absence has not slowed the OVP’s progress. In fact, the Vice President has become more engaged in overseeing programs and approving communications, such as press releases. “She may not be here physically—we just can’t see her—but the necessary work for the office is still being done,” Castelo remarked partly in Filipino.

“Ano lang, minsan virtual, minsan ghost,” she added, capturing the essence of Duterte’s intangible yet impactful presence.

OVP and Vice President Vow to Improve Performance

Following a recent survey showing a dip in Duterte’s performance rating from 56 to 50 points, Castelo assured the public that both the Vice President and the OVP will intensify efforts to fulfill their mandate.

“We, of course, respect the survey regardless of the source—it’s okay with us if that is their finding. And of course, with that, whether it is true or not, we have resolved to do better for the OVP,” Castelo said.

She added, “The Vice President herself has resolved to work even harder than we are all working now, so we will further improve the service we provide to the people.”
