Vice President Sara Duterte fulfilled her promise to visit her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, in The Hague, Netherlands, by the end of May. She arrived on the evening of May 28, Manila time, accompanied by her mother, Elizabeth Zimmerman.

The visit marks a significant moment as the Vice President keeps her commitment to see her father, who is currently detained at the Scheveningen Prison in The Hague. Sources familiar with the matter shared photos of her arrival, showing her and her mother at the airport where she was seen purchasing train tickets.

Family Support and Scheduled Meetings

Senator Imee Marcos, who has also been accompanying the Vice President during recent trips, posted a photo with her on social media, saying, “Hindi kalamigan basta’t kasama ang Kaibigan. Touchdown ????????.” Marcos was previously with Duterte in Doha, Qatar, when the Vice President met with the Filipino community there.

The Vice President had promised to visit her father with her mother on her birthday, which falls on May 31. According to local reports, she is scheduled to meet with the former president on May 30, as well as on June 2 and 3. On her birthday, she plans to attend a gathering of Filipinos residing near the detention facility.

Family Presence and Care in The Hague

It remains unclear which members of the Duterte family will accompany her during the scheduled meetings. The Vice President previously mentioned that the family decided a relative should always be present in The Hague to care for the former president’s needs. Although she, her sister Veronica, and brother Paulo have visited him in the past, sources have not disclosed who is currently staying in The Hague.

Vice President Duterte’s visit is expected to conclude on June 4, when she will return to the Philippines. This short trip underlines her commitment to family and her promise to maintain close ties despite the challenges.
