Vice President Sara Duterte’s Legal Team Responds
In a significant legal development, Vice President Sara Duterte’s legal team has formally filed an opposition to the House of Representatives’ motion for reconsideration with the Supreme Court. The motion aims to overturn the court ruling that declared the impeachment complaint against Duterte “unconstitutional.”
According to legal sources, the opposition was submitted on Monday afternoon, reinforcing the Vice President’s stance amid ongoing judicial proceedings.
Legal Counsel Confirms Filing, Respects Judicial Process
Atty. Michael Poa, representing Vice President Sara Duterte, confirmed the formal submission of their comment opposing the House’s motion. However, he declined to discuss the contents of the filing, citing adherence to the sub judice rule and respect for the court’s process.
“We confirm that we have formally filed our Comment/Opposition to the Motion for Reconsideration filed by the House of Representatives before the Honorable Supreme Court,” Poa stated. He added, “In deference to the sub judice rule and out of respect for the judicial process, we will not be granting media interviews or issuing further statements at this time.”
Supreme Court to Review Motion and Opposition
The Supreme Court is now scheduled to review both the House’s motion for reconsideration and the Vice President’s legal team’s opposition. This step marks a critical phase in the impeachment complaint’s judicial journey.
Meanwhile, Senate officials have decided to archive the case against Vice President Sara Duterte. This move follows a shift from an earlier proposal by a senator to dismiss the case outright after the Supreme Court’s ruling.
Senate Archives Case Amid Legal Proceedings
Community leaders noted the Senate’s decision to archive the impeachment complaint represents a cautious approach, allowing judicial processes to unfold without legislative intervention at this stage.
