Voting Precinct Inquiries Dominate Hotline Requests
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) Voter Care Center has reported that inquiries about voting precincts topped the list of calls and messages received through its voter assistance hotline for the 2025 election. From May 9 to May 12, the center handled 430 calls specifically about precinct locations.
Aside from precinct questions, the center received 107 calls on various other concerns, while 86 voters contacted the hotline to ask why their names were missing from the voter list. Additionally, 72 callers raised general voting issues.
Reports on Vote-Buying and Machine Malfunctions
Concerns about vote-buying were also significant, with 51 reports coming in from different areas. Meanwhile, 18 callers reported malfunctions with the automated counting machines (ACMs) during the voting process.
In response, Comelec Chairman George Garcia stated that approximately 200 ACMs that malfunctioned on election day were promptly replaced with new machines, ensuring the counting process continued smoothly.
Other Election-Related Reports Received
The voter assistance hotline also recorded 15 reports about prohibited campaigning, while nine calls mentioned disruptions affecting peace and order. Furthermore, one inquiry was related to the counting or canvassing of votes, and another reported a violation of the election ban.
Total Inquiries and Voter Registration Numbers
Overall, the Comelec Voter Care Center handled a total of 790 inquiries during the period, with the busiest day being election day itself, May 12, when 278 calls were received.
The 2025 midterm elections will involve approximately 68 million registered voters nationwide, highlighting the importance of accessible voter assistance services to address election concerns.
