Vice President Sara Duterte dismissed the rumored memorandum calling for the removal of Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez. She called it “irrelevant” and downplayed its significance.
“I don’t think that is relevant right now dahil the damage has been done. Ang laki na ng pagkakamali at korapsyon na ginawa nila sa budget natin,” she said during an ambush interview in Cagayan de Oro City.
In her words, even if Romualdez is replaced, the lost funds due to corruption won’t be recovered. “So palitan man natin si House Speaker Romualdez, hindi na natin maibabalik ‘yung pera na nawala dahil sa korapsyon.”
Meanwhile, the supposed memorandum ordered an intensified campaign to boost the Marcos administration’s ratings and recommended ousting Romualdez. But Palace Press Officer Atty. Claire Castro branded it as fake news. Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, who was purportedly the signatory, also outright denied the document’s authenticity.
The drama around Duterte continues. On February 5, the House impeached her, with over 200 lawmakers backing the complaint. She faces serious allegations—betrayal of public trust, graft, corruption, and high crimes.
Duterte fights back. She filed a petition with the Supreme Court, arguing that the House abused its discretion by freezing action on earlier complaints, then ignoring the one-year ban when the fourth complaint was filed.
The political battle is far from over, and the stakes remain high. Will justice prevail, or will this saga deepen the divide? Watch this space.
