Warm Conditions to Prevail in Luzon Visayas Weather: What to Expect
Warm and humid conditions will continue to dominate most parts of Luzon and the Visayas in the coming days, according to local weather experts. Meanwhile, Mindanao is expected to face persistent rain showers as the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) remains active in the region.
The ITCZ is an area where winds from the northern and southern hemispheres meet, often resulting in moderate to heavy rainfall. This weather pattern is responsible for scattered rain showers and thunderstorms affecting Mindanao, Palawan, and parts of the Visayas.
Rainy Weather in Mindanao and Surrounding Areas
Residents in affected areas are advised to stay alert as the ongoing rains could trigger flash floods or landslides, especially in vulnerable locations. Community leaders said, “Mag-ingat po tayo lalo na sa mga lugar na madalas bumaha o madulas ang lupa.”
Weather conditions influenced by the ITCZ are expected to gradually improve by Friday, May 23. Until then, scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will likely continue, impacting daily activities in these regions.
Hot Weather Persists in Luzon and Visayas
In contrast, most parts of Luzon and the Visayas will experience generally warm weather. However, isolated rain showers and thunderstorms may still occur in the afternoon or evening. These are brought about by easterly winds originating from the Pacific Ocean.
Such thunderstorms typically last between 30 minutes to an hour but can occasionally extend up to two hours. As the country transitions from the dry season to the rainy season, these weather events become more frequent.
Transition to the Rainy Season
Local experts note that the rainy season, usually associated with the southwest monsoon or “habagat,” tends to begin between the latter half of May and the first half of June. This marks a shift to more consistent rainfall across the country.
During this period, residents should prepare for wetter conditions and take necessary precautions to ensure safety amid changing weather patterns.
