Waterspout in Zambales Town Wreaks Havoc
A powerful waterspout formed off the coast of Cabangan town in Zambales on Thursday, July 31, 2025. This rare weather event uprooted trees and damaged several houses as it moved from the sea to inland areas.
According to local leaders, the waterspout developed near Barangay Laoag around 12:15 p.m. It then proceeded toward Barangays Lomboy and Longos, leaving a trail of destruction in its path. The strong winds caused by the waterspout uprooted trees and brought down debris that damaged homes.
Details of the Damage and Response
Initial reports from the Barangay Longos Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council noted that a large mango tree was uprooted and fell onto two houses. Other fallen trees partially blocked a stretch of the national highway, creating difficulties for motorists.
In addition, one of the trees struck an electric post, causing a power outage that affected several villages for at least three hours. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported amid the incident.
Immediate Cleanup and Recovery Efforts
Clearing operations began promptly after the waterspout passed through the area. Local disaster officials coordinated efforts to remove fallen trees and restore power as quickly as possible. Authorities remain on alert for any further weather disturbances.
The head of the Cabangan Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office emphasized the unpredictable nature of such events but assured residents that safety measures are being strengthened.
