Classes Suspended Amid Southwest Monsoon and Typhoon Bising
Several local government units have announced the suspension of classes on Monday, July 7, due to the severe weather caused by the southwest monsoon and Typhoon Bising. The inclement weather has affected multiple areas, prompting officials to prioritize public safety.
The exact four word keyphrase “southwest monsoon and typhoon” is central to these disruptions. Schools in the entire province of Ilocos Sur, including all levels both public and private, will not hold classes. Public office work is also suspended in the province.
Other affected areas include Lingayen in Pangasinan, Masantol in Pampanga, and Bauang in La Union, where classes are likewise suspended for all levels in both public and private schools.
Typhoon Bising’s Path and Weather Warnings
According to the state weather bureau, the center of Typhoon Bising was located 335 kilometers west-northwest of Itbayat in Batanes, already outside the Philippine area of responsibility. The typhoon is moving northeast towards Taiwan, but it is expected to re-enter the Philippine boundary late Sunday night before exiting again by Monday morning.
Batanes remains under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 as Bising accelerates away. Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon continues to bring strong winds and heavy rains to several regions.
Areas Facing Strong Winds and Gusts
On Sunday, July 6, strong to gale-force gusts are expected in the Ilocos Region, Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Zambales, Bataan, Quezon, Masbate, and Romblon.
These conditions will persist into Monday, July 7, with the addition of Occidental Mindoro. By Tuesday, July 8, Palawan will also experience strong winds alongside the previously mentioned areas.
Local officials stress the importance of staying indoors and monitoring weather updates as the southwest monsoon and typhoon impact the region. The suspension of classes and work aims to protect residents from hazardous weather conditions.
