Origin of Asia’s Nightingale Title
Have you ever wondered why Lani Misalucha is called Asia’s Nightingale? This iconic OPM singer received this distinguished title inspired by the nickname once given to Regine Velasquez, known as Asia’s Songbird. Lani recalled that her management, led by Ronnie Henares and his wife Ida Ramos, sought a fitting moniker after Regine was no longer with their agency.
They wanted to continue the bird theme but find a unique name for Lani. One day, while praying for guidance, Ida noticed a sign with the word “nightingale” passing by on the street. She immediately told Ronnie, “Ronnie, this is what we’re gonna give her, the Nightingale.” Lani said, “Actually, sabi ko nga, ‘Wow, it’s really a beautiful name.’ At that time, I didn’t know what a nightingale was. Later, I found out it’s a bird famous for its beautiful singing.”
Discovering Her Singing Talent
Lani also shared when she realized she could sing well. She pointed out that Filipino parents often encourage children to sing in front of visitors. “Masasabi ko na nalaman ko lang na nakakakanta ako, only because we’re Filipinos. And Filipino parents would be like this. Pag may bisita sa bahay, andyan si auntie, andyan si ninang, andyan si kapitbahay. Pag nandiyan sa bahay, di ba ganu’n mga Filipino parents, they would force you to sing in front of their bisita proudly,” she recalled.
Despite this, she initially thought she would pursue a different career and not singing. However, her passion eventually led her to music stardom.
Personal Dreams and Family Life
At a young age, Lani already dreamed of having her own family. She prayed earnestly for a loving and hardworking husband. “At a very young age, probably about 8 or 9 years old, I was already praying to God that I wanted to have a family at a young age. I wanted to have children at a young age. And Heavenly Father, I said, ‘God, please provide me a very good husband who’s very hardworking, loving.’ Nabigay naman sa akin. That’s why I married at 21 years old,” she shared.
