Fatal King Cobra Bite Shocks Bohol Community
TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — A 52-year-old woman tragically died after a king cobra bite in Sevilla town, Bohol province on Monday, July 7. The deadly incident unfolded when Analinda Polinar-Dultra, a resident of Barangay Cabancalan, was feeding rabbits near her mother’s house close to wood piles.
Suddenly, a king cobra about two meters long struck her. This king cobra bite proved fatal as it happened around 2 p.m. Dultra fought fiercely, reportedly slapping the snake multiple times. However, she sustained bites on her foot, hand, and shoulders, local sources said.
Delay in Medical Care Leads to Tragic Outcome
Instead of rushing to a hospital, Dultra first sought help from a local albularyo (healer). Unfortunately, the healer told her that nothing could be done because the venom had already spread through her body. When Dultra began struggling to breathe, she was brought to the town health center for resuscitation before being transferred to Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Medical Center in Tagbilaran City.
She arrived at the hospital at 4:45 p.m. Medical personnel were ready to administer an anti-venom injection but it was too late. Despite receiving the anti-venom, Dultra was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Relatives later found and killed the cobra.
King Cobra Bite Risks and Previous Incidents
Filemon Polinar, her brother, expressed that the delay in seeking proper medical treatment may have cost her life. Health officials warn that cobra bites require immediate attention. Delays in treatment can be fatal.
This incident is sadly not isolated. Last year, a three-year-old child in Loon town also died from cobra bites. The community is reminded to act quickly if bitten to increase chances of survival.
