Yedda Romualdez Denies Cebu Governor Bid Rumors

Tingog Party-list Representative Yedda Romualdez firmly denied any plans to run for the gubernatorial seat in Cebu. She spoke directly to the public through her Facebook account on the evening of June 7, addressing the circulating local political gossip. Romualdez, who is also the wife of House Speaker Martin Romualdez, stressed that she is not seeking any position in Cebu and has not changed her residency.

“I want to speak directly to the people of Cebu—and to the Filipino public—who may have seen my name being dragged into local political speculation,” she said, emphasizing the importance of clarifying the facts.

Clear Refutation of Political Speculation

The 2025 midterm elections had just concluded on May 12, which makes the rumors about her candidacy even more baseless. Romualdez urged everyone to verify official records, noting that she is not a registered voter in Liloan, Cebu. Her mother is registered in Cebu City, but she herself is not.

She also mentioned Cebu’s 5th district Representative Vincent Franco “Duke” Frasco by name, saying, “Duke knows fully well whether or not I am his constituent.” Romualdez indicated that these details are easy to confirm with Comelec records.

Warning Against Rumor Mongering

Romualdez appealed to those spreading unfounded claims to stop using her name for their own political gain. “Politics should be about public service, not power games,” she said. Her current focus remains on serving the Filipino people rather than pursuing personal ambitions.

In a clear message to Cebu voters, she added, “Ako na po mismo ang nagsasabi sa inyo: huwag n’yo akong iboto (I’ll be the one to tell you: don’t vote for me). Because that would not be me.”

Political Tensions in Cebu

Coincidentally, Vincent Franco Frasco made headlines the same weekend after reportedly refusing to sign a manifesto supporting Speaker Romualdez’s continued leadership in the 20th Congress. This act reportedly led to his removal from the National Unity Party (NUP), a strong ally of both Speaker Romualdez and President Marcos.

Frasco is also connected politically as the son-in-law of Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, who lost her reelection bid during the recent May elections. These developments highlight ongoing political tensions within Cebu’s local leadership.
