Yellow Rainfall Warning Issued for Metro Manila and Luzon
Authorities have raised a yellow rainfall warning over Metro Manila and seven other provinces in Luzon. This alert comes amid the enhanced southwest monsoon, locally called the habagat, which is expected to bring significant rainfall in the coming hours. Residents in these areas are urged to stay vigilant as the warning indicates moderate rainfall between 7.5 and 15 millimeters.
The yellow rainfall warning covers Metro Manila, Bataan, Rizal, Zambales, Batangas, Cavite, Bulacan, and Pampanga. These regions may experience flooding, especially in low-lying and flood-prone zones. The weather bureau advises communities to prepare accordingly and monitor updates closely.
Rainfall Forecast and Impacted Areas
Aside from the areas under the yellow warning, light to moderate rain with occasional heavy showers is expected in Tarlac and Nueva Ecija within the next three hours. Meanwhile, several towns in Laguna and Quezon provinces are also experiencing similar weather conditions, which may continue and spread to nearby locations.
Specific towns in Laguna such as Santa Cruz, Majayjay, Magdalena, and Calamba, as well as Quezon towns including Lucban, Tayabas, and Lucena, are currently affected. The persistent rain could worsen flooding risks, prompting locals to exercise caution.
Severe Tropical Storm Emong Weakens Over Luzon
In a separate update, the weather bureau reported that Severe Tropical Storm Emong is gradually weakening as it moves over the Cordillera Central mountain range. It is expected to exit Luzon soon. The storm was last detected near Calanasan, Apayao, carrying maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour and gusts reaching up to 160 kph.
Residents in the path of Emong are advised to remain alert to any changes in weather conditions and heed local authorities’ warnings.
