Yellow rainfall warning issued for Metro Manila and Luzon
The state weather agency has raised a yellow rainfall warning over Metro Manila and seven provinces in Luzon this Saturday afternoon. This alert comes as Severe Tropical Storm Wipha, previously named Crising, combines with the southwest monsoon, locally called habagat, to bring heavy rains across the region.
According to the latest 5 p.m. advisory, areas under the yellow rainfall warning—signifying rainfall between 7.5 and 15 millimeters within the next three hours—include Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, and Rizal. Residents are urged to remain alert as flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas is possible.
Rainfall forecast and affected areas
In addition to the yellow warning zones, light to moderate rains with occasional heavy showers are affecting Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Quezon, and Laguna. These conditions are expected to persist for the next several hours, officials said.
Earlier this morning, the weather bureau reported that Crising had intensified into a severe tropical storm named Wipha as it exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). At 11 a.m., the storm was located approximately 235 kilometers west of Itbayat, Batanes, moving west-northwest at 15 kilometers per hour.
The storm packs maximum sustained winds of 100 kilometers per hour with gusts reaching up to 125 kilometers per hour. Authorities continue to monitor its path closely and advise the public to stay informed through official channels.
