Youth and grassroots support energize senatorial bets
Senatorial candidates and labor leaders Leody de Guzman and Luke Espiritu expressed strong optimism Thursday night about their chances in the May 12 midterm elections. Their confidence stems from the growing youth and grassroots support they have gained nationwide.
“Lagi kaming nasa top 12 ng survey ng mga estudyante,” De Guzman told a lively crowd at Liwasang Bonifacio in Manila during their miting de avance. (We’re always in the top 12 of student surveys.)
He added, “At hindi lang nasa top 12, karamihan sa kanilang mga ginawang survey sa pamamagitan ng mock election nila, kami ni Luke ay nasa top 5!” (Not only in the top 12, but based on most of their mock election surveys, Luke and I rank in the top 5!)
Youth and grassroots support drive campaign momentum
The rally marked the final event of a months-long campaign trail. Throughout this period, the tandem visited numerous labor unions, student groups, and community assemblies across the country. Their message resonated well with ordinary Filipinos seeking change.
They emphasized the urgent need to break free from political dynasties. Instead, they called for building a government that truly represents the interests of the common people.
With the youth and grassroots support behind them, De Guzman and Espiritu hope to secure a strong mandate this May 12.
Breaking political dynasties with youth and grassroots support
The candidates believe this wave of support is crucial in challenging entrenched political families. Moreover, they see the energy of young voters and grassroots organizations as a powerful force for reform.
As election day approaches, the tandem continues engaging communities nationwide, urging Filipinos to unite for genuine change and a government that listens to the people’s voice.
Ultimately, their campaign highlights the significant impact of youth and grassroots support in shaping the country’s political future.
