Zaijian Jaranilla Talks About First On-Camera Kissing Scene
“SIGURO ang masasabi ko po ay marunong po ako humalik, ‘yun lang po,” Zaijian Jaranilla candidly admitted. This straightforward answer sparked laughter among his co-actors, including the director and festival organizer, during the media conference held at the World Trade Center on May 16.
Zaijian even whispered to his co-star Jane, “tama ba sagot ko?” after being asked if he had ever experienced a kissing scene in real life, especially since he revealed he has had a girlfriend before.
From Child Star to Leading Man: Embracing New Roles
Many would have never imagined that the young Santino from the 2009 series “May Bukas Pa” would now take on a kissing scene and even jokingly engage in mukbangan. At 23 years old, Zaijian has grown both as a person and as an actor, but this marked his first time performing such a scene on camera.
When asked who convinced him to accept the role in the online series “Si Sol at si Luna” on Puregold Channel, he said, “Ako lang po ang pumipili ng role at supportive po ang Star Magic sa lahat ng ginagawa ko kasi ako naman ang gaganap hindi naman sila, kaya sobrang thankful po ako sa Star Magic at sa ABS (CBN) dahil hindi nila ako nililimitahan.”
Zaijian Jaranilla on Exploring New Roles
During the trailer screening of “Si Sol at si Luna,” the audience immediately shouted “Santino,” showing how strongly they associate him with his previous character. Zaijian admitted he was unsure how viewers would react to his new role but felt happy to receive comments appreciating his willingness to explore different characters.
“Thankful po ako kung paano ninyo ako nakilala pero gusto ko ring mag-try at ma-experience ang roles na ‘yan dahil iba ‘yung pakiramdam kapag nakakaganap ka ng ibang karakter, sobrang self-satisfying po,” he explained. Zaijian expressed gratitude toward the director and co-stars who helped ease the challenges he faced during the difficult scenes.
Challenges and Support Behind the Scenes
Zaijian also shared how he enjoys being challenged by the roles he takes on to test his own limits. The director revealed that Zaijian was the inspiration while writing the script, emphasizing the coming-of-age theme and the romantic dynamics between a 23-year-old and a 30-year-old character.
Before the interview, Zaijian greeted the press warmly, showing his appreciation for the support he has received. When asked if he asked for permission from his special someone for the kissing scene, he smiled and said, “Ay alam n’yo na po, opo-opo, alam niya, supportive po.”
