ZAMBOANGA CITY – Mayor John Dalipe called on the community to embrace modern heroism by living out the values of patriotism and dedicated service every day. Speaking during the 127th Philippine Independence Day celebration, he emphasized the importance of these ideals in protecting the nation’s freedom.
Themed “Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan,” the event held at Rizal Park reminded attendees that independence is not merely a historic milestone but an ongoing journey toward liberty, justice, and progress. “We are all guardians of this freedom,” Mayor Dalipe stressed, urging citizens to cherish and defend their rights in everyday life.
Commemorative Activities and Local Participation
The celebration began with a solemn flag-raising ceremony, followed by a wreath-laying at the Rizal Monument, honoring the country’s revered national heroes. This symbolic act reaffirmed the community’s respect for those who fought for the nation’s sovereignty.
Joining the occasion were Police Col. Fidel Fortaleza Jr., the Zamboanga City police chief; Councilor Jordan Evangelista, president of the Association of Barangay Captains; and representatives from the Western Mindanao Command, Naval Forces Western Mindanao, and the Philippine Air Force. City government officials also participated, highlighting the event’s unity and significance.
