Increase in Dengue Cases in Zamboanga City
Zamboanga City is experiencing a notable rise in dengue cases in the first quarter of 2025. According to local health authorities, dengue infections have surged by 42 percent compared to the same period last year. This increase has attracted close attention from community leaders and health workers alike.
First Quarter Dengue Cases and Impact
Reports indicate that from January to April 2025, the city recorded 524 dengue cases, with three fatalities reported. While these numbers are concerning, the health office clarified that the situation has not yet reached an alert or epidemic threshold. Nonetheless, the City Health Office remains vigilant, as dengue outbreaks have historically occurred every three years, with the last one recorded in 2021.
Areas Most Affected by Dengue
Several barangays have been identified as hotspots for dengue infections. Kasanyangan, San Roque, Talon Talon, Putik, Tetuan, and Santa Catalina are among the most affected areas. Community members in these neighborhoods have been urged to take preventive measures seriously to curb the spread of the disease.
Preventive Measures and Public Advice
Health officials are calling on residents to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings to prevent mosquito breeding. Cleaning and removing stagnant water can significantly reduce the risk of dengue transmission. The City Health Office continues to monitor the situation closely and encourages everyone to participate actively in prevention efforts.
“Mag-amping kita tanan ug limpyohan ang ato mga palibot aron malikayan ang dengue,” community leaders said, emphasizing the importance of collective action.
