High-Value Target Seized in Zamboanga City Sting
In a significant breakthrough, authorities seized four kilograms of suspected shabu during a joint operation in Barangay Canelar, Zamboanga City. The Zamboanga City sting targeted a high-value individual involved in drug trafficking, marking a critical step in the ongoing fight against illegal drugs.
Officials reported that the operation took place early Tuesday morning, involving coordination among multiple law enforcement agencies. The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Regional Office-IX led the efforts, alongside local partners to ensure the successful apprehension.
Suspect Identified as Ex-Military Businessman
The suspect, known only as “Badri,” is a 52-year-old businessman and former military personnel residing in Barangay Dalapang, Labangan town, Zamboanga del Sur, sources said. Authorities described him as a high-value target due to his alleged connections and involvement in the drug trade.
During the sting, officers recovered four vacuum-sealed packs of suspected shabu. Each pack was carefully concealed inside Chinese tea packaging labeled “Guanyinwang,” a method consistent with tactics used by other drug trafficking syndicates, officials noted.
Packaging Method Reveals Trafficking Network Ties
The packaging technique used in this Zamboanga City sting aligns with patterns previously observed in regional drug trafficking operations. This detail highlights the sophistication and reach of the networks involved, according to law enforcement sources.
The seized drug substance weighed approximately 4,000 grams, equivalent to four kilograms, with an estimated street value reaching millions of pesos. The discovery underscores the scale and seriousness of the illegal drug problem in the region.
Charges Filed Under Dangerous Drugs Law
The suspect now faces charges under Section 5, Article II of Republic Act No. 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. Community members expressed hope that this arrest would disrupt further drug activities and send a strong message to other traffickers.
Authorities continue to investigate possible connections and the broader network that may be linked to this operation. The collaboration between agencies remains pivotal in dismantling drug syndicates and ensuring public safety in Zamboanga City and neighboring areas.
