Zamboanga del Sur Secures Funding for Bridge in Pisompongan
PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur – Following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s mention of Midsalip town’s need for a bridge during his recent State of the Nation Address, local officials quickly confirmed that P60 million has been allocated for this vital infrastructure project.
Governor Divina Grace Yu shared with sources that this budget will fund the construction of a concrete bridge in Barangay Pisompongan, a remote village in Midsalip. The four-word keyphrase “funding for bridge Pisompongan” marks a significant step toward improving access for residents.
Presidential Directives Accelerate Infrastructure Support
During his address, the President instructed the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), and the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) to inspect bridges nationwide. He emphasized using the Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (PAMANA) program to rehabilitate and build structures, especially in underserved areas.
Governor Yu noted that after media reports highlighted the challenges faced by Pisompongan residents, the provincial government received assurances that the bridge project would be included in the national government’s spending plan.
Community Development to Follow Infrastructure Boost
In addition to the bridge funding, the Department of Social Welfare and Development pledged to roll out supplementary programs to further develop the Pisompongan community. These steps aim to improve the daily lives of residents and enhance educational access for children.
Heartfelt Impact on Local School Community
On June 25, a powerful video surfaced on social media showing students and teachers at Pisompongan Integrated School crossing a river with a strong current—a risky daily ordeal made worse by heavy rains. The school lies 20 kilometers from the Midsalip town center, making safe passage challenging.
School principal Gideon Goc-ong expressed deep gratitude, saying, “I was deeply moved and grateful that President Bongbong Marcos mentioned the planned bridge for our community in his Sona.” He described the project as “not just a win for infrastructure—it’s a victory for the children, the parents, and the future of Midsalip.”
Goc-ong also highlighted the vital role of media, stating, “That simple video was a cry for help, and today, that cry was finally acknowledged at the highest level.”
The new bridge funding promises to transform life in Pisompongan, making daily travel safer and supporting the community’s growth.
